Read the following : COPY OF REPORT. Melbourne International Exhibition, 11th April, 1881. To J. Cosmo Newbery, Esq., Superintendent of Juries and Awards. Sir, —According to your instructions we have made a practical test and thorough examination of the following Sewing Maohlnes, viz , the Wheeler and Wilaon, Jones and Co., Wertheim, and the Davis, and the results of our experiments are set forth in the tabulated statement attached. We find that the Wertheim and Jones all of the Singer type and similar in construction, and should be classed in the same order. The Wheeler and Wilson differs in construction, hut the results oi our experiments are similar to the former named. As regards the DAVIS, we cannot but agree with the jury that it is very buperior to any of the others, and went through every test to our entire satisfaction. We therefore beg to recommend that the Machines be placed in the following order : FAMILY MACHINES. Ist, The Davis ; 3rd, Whaeler and Wilaon, Jones and Co., Wertheim. HAND MACHINES. Ist, 3he Davis ; 2nd, Wertheim ; 3rd, Wheeler and Wihon. Jones and Co. (Signed, BO^ARD Y T J Expeltß> STATEMENT OF EXPERTS AT THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION. DAVIS.
