THE "TELEGRAPH" NEWSPAPER.

A cobbbsfondbnt who signs himself " One who Knows," questions the correctness of our published list on Friday last of the new proprietors of the " Telegraph " newspaper, and specially naming Messrs John Hall, Rolleston, and Watson, says that our statement is

" grossly inacourate." We should have been better pleased if the repudiation had reached us in a more authoritative and satisfactory way than from an unknown correspondent. Common rumor, colorably sustained by the novel appearance of quite an array of Government advertisements in an evening journal in Christchuroh, certainly goes far to support the contrary of that whioh our correspondent desires to establish. It is not a matter of muoh consequence to us or the public as to what are the actual facts, and we shall not complain so long as the newspapor in question is conducted honestly and reputably. Sinco our last writing on this subject we find that the Bank of Now Zealand claim £2500 only, and this amount is now in course of subscription by the few liberal hearted gentlemen, whose names are now familiar to the public. We are glad to hear that this sum, thus providentially found, in addition to that to be provided for the paper's future maintenance, is not furnished with any delusive idea of establishing a suoeessful undertaking in a pecuniary sense, but simply for the purpose of controlling and directing an organ whose especial duty shall be to uphold and maintain any questions of public or social policy, as shall be held by Messrs Gowliahaw, Hall and Rolleston.
