He declared in favor of a land tax as introduced by i-ir George Grey, and also that assistance he given to denominational schools. Ha was in favor of a limited protection to local industries. A vote of confidence was carried. Trial of TitokowaruTitokowaru was brought up at tho Police Court this morning, and charged by Thomas Lloyd, hotelkeeper at Mania, with having, on the 21st October, used threatening words, to tho effect that he would burn down tho hotel and murder tho women and children, and that ho would set fire to Mania; also with saying at Fort Eolleston, Parihaka, ‘‘Do yon think my people would run away from such a set of men as you have brought here ? Have tho Europeans forgotten Turuturumokai and Ngutuo-te-manu? A day will yet come,” or words to that effect. Mr Standish appeared for the prosecution, and applied to have Titokowaru bound over to keep the peace. After hearing evidence, Titokowaru was ordered to find two securities in .£SOO each to keep the peace for twelve months. In the meantime he will bo kept in gaol till ho finds securities.
