He commented at great length on the conduot of members engaged in " stonewalling," and declared himself a strong supporter of the present G-c----vernment. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried. NEW PLYMOUTH, November 24. The Robbery at Flemings. Te Ai was brought up this morning charged with stealing articles from Messrs Flemings Bros, house at Rahotu. The evidonce disclosed that some of the clothes were found on the prisoner when arrested. The prisoner was remanded till Wednesday next. GISBORNE, November 24. Libel. Mr J. Gannon has taken legal proceeding! against the Poverty Bay " Herald" for publishing a slanderous and defamatory statement against him. Damages are laid at £SOOO. PATEA, November 24. The Fleetwing AshoreThe schooner Fleetwirg, timber laden, from Hokianga, went ashore on the north bank in entering the river this morning, but will probably get off next tide. RUSSELL, November 24. Maori Candidates. The following are the nominations for a Maori member of Parliament :—Hone Mohi, Tawhia, Hunui Tawhinga, Hare Kewetu. The show of hands was in favor of Hunui Tawhinga. For Cambridge four candidates are nominated, viz. : Major Tewheoro, Hamiore Maugakahio, Wm. Hughes (h Ifcaste) and Mita Kaiaka. DUNEDIN, November 24. Fires.

The Eccles Hotel, Naseby, was burnt down on Tuesday. It is insured in the Victoria offioe for £2OO. Two oottagei at Caversham were burned down this morning. The fire was caused by the explosion of a kerosene lamp at ten last night. The neighbors thought they had put it out, but at three o'clock this morning the flames burst out with great rapidity, some of the inmates getting severely burned in effecting their escape. Morrison's house, in whioh the fire started, was insured for £2OO, and Hobson's, adjoining, for £275 in the National.
