All the Natives were mustered outside Parihaka this morning, and only those belonging to the place were permitted to re enter, 580 of whom (two-thirds being women and children) were drafted in. Sixty-six were detained, and sixteen from Parapara were also selected, the houses being pulled down. Tohu’s meeting house was levelled at four o’clock. Over fifty drays and spring carts, three buggies, and one brake were collected outside the village, besides a quantity of saddles. Titokowaru is still in solitary confinement, and in irons. It is said Hakaraki and others have returned to Parihaka, and a search will be made. The Taranaki are again here, and the stockade is being pushed on. Mr Bryce loaves on Friday to address his constituents. Some doubt is expressed as to the wisdom of searching all the

whares promiscuously. Some well-known friendly Natives have been so treated, and the effect upon them is considered unsatisfactory. The Hauraki, with the Palmerston and Fielding Volunteers, was off Rahotu at noon.
