[PBB PEBBS ASSOCIATION.j NEW PLYMOUTH, November 21, The Trial of HirokiHiroki was brought up at the Police Court this morning at 10.30, and charged with having murdered Mr McLean. Mr Blandish, with Mr Samuel, appeared for the prosecution. The first witness called was Charles Messenger, who deposed that ho had seen Hiroki at Parihaka, and in the course of conversation with him ho (the prisoner) told him that when at Momahaki the surveyors had been in the habit of killing his pigs. He had warned them, prisoner said, several times, and on the day of the murder he heard the dogs at the pigs, and when he got up to where McLean was he had some words with him about killing the pigs. Hiroki said McLean threatened to shoot him, and it he, the prisoner, had not shot McLean, McLean would have shot him. Witness said Hiroki paraded the gun at the meeting at Parihaka. Dr. Croft deposed that he made a post mortem on the body of McLean. Witness then described the wound, and the case was adjourned till to-morrow, PATEA, November 21, The Waitotara Natives relented at a meeting yesterday, and despatched witnesses by coach to New Plymouth to-day to give_ evidence against Hiroki. Another witness is ill, but will leave on recovery. HAMILTON, November 21. PoliticalMr Whitaker addressed meetings at Pukukura, Paknririni and Cambridge M est, and a rote of thanks aad confidence.
OPUNAKE, November 21. Return of the Volunteers. The last detachment of volunteers embarked yesterday. The tribes Ngatiranni, Ngatikane and Ngarnahine have been escorted as far as Oeo in charge of Hone Pihama. They are very sullen.
