ROAD BOARDS.

WEST EYRETON.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held November 14th. Present Messrs Moderate (cheirman pro tom), Dawson, and Kaindonald. The surveyor’s report, was read and adopted. A letter from Mr C. Poster was read, requesting the Board to reconsider fhe decision arrived at to make a ford on Pastor’s read from McDowell’s to Maindonald’e land, nr.d build a concrete bridge instead. Mr Maindocald proposed, and Mr Moderate recorded —“That the ford be made as decided cn at the last meeting." Carried. Mr Maindcnald proposed, and Mr Dawson seconded “ That oonoi’oto side channel bo made to lead the water in tho gully fronting Bennett and Tfcrelkeld’s land, on the Down road." Carried. The surveyor was directed to have lha roadway on the north end of Boyd read sloped off and filled up at Moderate's gate with boulders; also to repair the North Eyre road by blinding the shingle with a covering of clay where tho road is out up. Tenders wore ordered to be invited for sundry works. Accounts were passed and ordered to be paid amounting to £77 Iss 4d. OUST. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board waa held on Monday, November 14th, Pre-

sent—Mr Anderson (chairman), and all the members. Correspondence was read from — the Government, advising tho Board that £53 I9j Id had been forwarded to the Union Bank of Australia, Rangiora, to be placed to its credit, being subsidy of 10s in the £ on rates. From tho Bank, acknowledging receipt of oamo. From the Corn Exchange re railway tariff. The Chairman reported that he had (by direction of the Board) placed £7OO at fixed deposit for a period of six mouths. Mr Conway applied for some repairs to bo done to a culvert on Conway’s road, and a portion of tho road shingled, Messrs Grantand Atkinson to inspect the road and report at next meeting. Tenders were accepted for building bridges on Terraco and Davis’ roads. The tenders received for widening Gatherwood’s road being considered too high, it was decided to call fresh ones by next special meeting. The clerk was instructed to give various owners of land notice to clear tho gorse off the roads. It was decided to call tenders by next meeting for tho following works :—Widening Hill road, forming part of Glow’s road, shingling Thompson’s road, and making groin at Morrison’s bridge ; and that the day man finish the ford at Howson’s road. Accounts amounting to £l5B 10s wero passed, and the Board adjourned to Monday, November 28th, COURTENAY. A meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, November 15th inst. Present — Hon. Colonel Brett (chairman), Messrs Mathias, Anson, Gough and Hay, The Chairman stated that he had attended at tho office on tho 24th ult., with Mr Anson, and had opened and Jaocoptod tenders for works advertised, as requested. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. Resolved—- “ That tho clerk be instructed to write to Mr Storey, and inform him that the Road Board will hold him responsible for any damage that may be caused to the rood fronting his land by the diversion he is making in the Hawkins river, where eamoruns through his sections.” Correspondence was road as follows—From the returning officer of tho Coleridge district, asking to bo allowed tho use of tho Road Board office ns a polling place at the ensuing general election. Granted. From Mr T. Cotton, asking for the balance of proceeds of sale of two horses sold out of tho Courtenay oound in September last, Clerk to reply. From Mr J. W. Davis, in reply, forwarding scale of charges, and offering to take level* for the Board in connection with the diversion of storm water to tho Hawkins river, below Racecourse Hill. Clerk to write and accept Mr Davis’s offer. A petition from Mr F. Noavo and twenty other ratepayers was read, asking the Board to take tho necessary steps to causa tho road running between sections 14116, 1213, 12133 and 24173 to be stopped, as owing to a road parallel with it and within a few chains, tho road is not required. Surveyor to communicate with Mr Neave on the subject. From Mr H. Cowan, applying for timber for the purpose of forming a culvert in front of his gatowoy on tho West Coast road. Application declined. From Mr J. D. Buys, asking for tho use of the Road Board office to hold a meeting of electors on Tuesday, tho 22nd inst. Granted. Tho surveyor was instructed to consult the Board’s solicitors as to the advisability of having a legal form drawn up for signature by every ratepayer who is desirous of putting in a culvert across the public roads for the purpose of taking water from the Malvern water-race. The pay-sheet, amounting to £513 5a 3d, having been adopted and passed, the Board adjourned till Tuesday, December 13ih.
