SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
KAIAPOI. The monthly meeting was held on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Parnham (chairman), Coup, Mathews, Fraser, and Pashby. Betters were read From the Board of Education, authorising the committee to receive applications for an assistant mistress. From Mrs E. Johnson, applying for the same. The application wos ordered to be forwarded to the Board. From the head-master, forwarding returns, showing the number on the roll to bo 419, and the average attendance 248. It was resolved that a letter from the head-master from a previous meeting be left in the bands of the chairman. It was resolved that Messrs Pashby, Fraser, Parnham, Mathews, Coup, Moore, and Porter, form a committee to assist the head-master in arranging for the annual entertainment in aid of the prize fund. Accounts, £ls 19s 6d, were passed, and the committee adjourned. LEE3TON. The usual monthly meeting of this committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday. Present—Messrs J. Barnett (chairman), S. E. Doyle, Spring, Jeffery, Sandry, Dunn, and MoLaohlan. The Chairman reported that to suit the convenience of three of the committee he bad postponed the meeting from the 3rd to last Friday. Mr George Sandry thought he had exceeded his power, and wanted to know if the present meeting was a legal one. The Chairman replied that it was legal, and that he had power and would do so again to oblige any three members. After a short discussion the action of the chairman was fully approved of. The Chairman further reported that he had had the school fences repaired and the bridge at the side school removed and a footbridge erected on the site of the old bridge. Mr Doyle asked by what authority he had erected the bridge. He considered that the chairman took too much on himself. After some discussion the chairman’s action in the matter was approved of, Mr Doyle being the only objector. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education advising payment of £sl 12s 4d for October salaries, and from the same enclosing inspector’s report, and also a copy of the new regulations re teacher’s salaries. Mr John MoLachlan moved —“ That this committee is pleased to note the very favorable report made by the inspector of the side school, which is now under the tuition of Miss Bain.” Seconded by Mr Sandry and carried. A letter was received from Mr Ford, the head master of the Main school, tendering his resignation. It was resolved that the committee accept Mr Ford’s resignation, and to request him to remain in office until the end of February. It was resolved to hold the annual school concert in December, and out of the proceeds to give the children a treat.
