It is not generally known that a trade has been lately opened between this port, Dnnedin and Liverpool, and that a line of sailing shipa will be maintained in it if sufficient inducement is found. The barque Seatoller, now at Dnnedin, is the pioneer boat of the line, and she has been followed by the Pampero, whose departure from Liverpool has been already announced. Dnnedin is made the first port of call and Lyttelton the ■port of departure. The Seatoller ia daily expected here from Port Chalmers with the Lyttelton portion of her cargo, after discharging which she will at once commence to load for Home. Messrs Mating and Co. are the agents for the new line. THE S.S. WESTPORT. Capt. W. R. Williams, of Wellington, arrived with his new Bteamer, the Westport, at Weatport, •on the 7th instant. Aa may be inferred from the -name of the new vessel, Bhe ia to be identified with the coal trade of the West Coast, and particularly that doing between Westport and Wellington. The steamer waa built on the Clyde specially to the order of Captain Williams, by Mesßra Murdoch and Murray. She is of the highest class at Lloyd's, and of thn following dimensions :—Length overall, 161 ft. ; breadth, 23ft. ; and grosa tonnage, 416 tone ; draught when fully loaded 12ft. Her passenger accommodation includes bertha for twenty in ihe saloon, and a like number in the steerage. The vessel is said to present an exceedingly -showy appearance, her rig, that of a topsail Behooner, being in good taste with the style of her build. Her engines are compressed surface condensing, 61 h.p. nominal, and she averaged nine knots per hour right through from Cardiff, her last poTt of departure from Home to her arrival at Westport. The exact steaming time is given aa 61 days 15 hours, and the distance run 13,200 miles. She called for water at St. Helena on September 20th, and at the Cape of Good Hope on October 6th. The voyage, including stoppages, was performed in 61 days. At a banquet given to her owner and captain the day following her arrival at Westport, Captain Williams strongly adviaed the electorß of that district to return no one to Parliament who would not devote hiß continous energies towards the promotion of the harbor improvements, breakwater, building, and bo forth.
