ASSEMBLY TATTERSALL'S

THE BETTING MARKET.

[Br the Fbi&b.] The Carnival week has not infused much animation into betting circles, but as the day has been fixed for tho various events on the tapis folks are turning their attention to the different entries, and for one fixture—l refer to the Lincoln Hurdle Race—another aooeptor has turned up. This animal is a well-bred chesnut, who has performed at one or two country meetings, although be has been out of training for some time, and his successes on the occasions referred to must not be considered any guarantee of fitness for the approaching Hurdle Race. He is known as The Priest, by Priesthood, from Emerald Isle, but, as his rival Georgics has received lots of attention, no beta could be got on, seeing he has not yet had a preliminary on the Lincoln course. That will ensue shortly ; till then I forbear any remarks about him, although his stable are very sanguine. For the Sydenham fixture Whiteboy is fast finding favour —his previous performances alone entitling him to the utmost respect; 3to 1 has been taken on him, whilst Mortmain has receded to 30 to 1. For South Ohristchurch, Capias has receded to 10 to 4, and that has not found acceptors, Metallioian still remaining at even money, at which bets are taken freely. For Stanmore matters are unchanged as regards Billy Pattens, but Peter Flat and Folle Farine have eaoh gone back, 15 to 1 and 30 to 1 respectively being offered but not taken. For the Lyttelton fixture The Navvy has orept up a point, Artist remaining at 10 to 4, whilst for Wakanui, Mailboy and the Poet are at 12 to 1 and 24 to 1, without finding acceptance. For North Ohristohurch Time-o'-Day is at even money, but Cremation has gone back considerably. I append the latest quotations :
