12nd, and the polling will take plaoe on the 9th. Two candidates are up, namely, Mr Thomas Kelly, the old member, and Major i Charles Brown. For the distriot of Taranaki Colonel Trimble is the only candidate yet out. PIOTON, November 14. Political. Mr Eyes, candidate for here in the Assembly, addressed a large meeting of the Picton electors on Saturday evening and received an almost unanimous vote of confidence. He has reoeived similar votes in all the other parts of the distriot. Fire. The Clarendon Hotel was burned to the ground last night. The cause is supposed to be a defective chimney. The house is said to be insured for £I2OO, the furniture £3OO, and the billiard table £IOO. A good deal of the furniture was saved, but not the billiard table. WELLINGTON, November 14. Court of AppealThe Court of Appeal did not sit to-day, Judges Gillios and Johnston not having arrived. The following is the oomplete list of cases sot down for hearing in the Divorce Court :-01aridge v Claridge and another, Dunedin, for hearing; Bayley v Bayley, Dunedin, decree absolute; Hornby v Hornby and another, Dunedin, deoree nisi ; Goldstein v Goldstein, Dunedin, decree nisi ; Millichamp v Millichamp, decree nisi ; and White v White, Wellington, for hearing. PATEA, November 14. A Fatal BathA boy aged eight years, son of Captain , Wilkinson, of Waverley, was drowned while bathing with his father in a stream yesterday. • Journalistic ' The " Fatea News" appears in an enlarged ' form this evening. DUNEDIN, November 14. J Fraudulent Bankruptcy. At the City Court, John Gordon was committed for trial for fraudulent bankruptcy. ' Shortly before filing he had £320 in bis ! stocking, whioh he gave to a publican. On • September 20th he got drunk, and it was thon discovered he had £206 in his ' possossion. Fire. ' A fonr-roomed oottage at North Otago Heads, owned and oooupied by Carl Jensen, was burned down. It was insured for £456 in the Hamburg Magdeburg office. INVEBOARGILL, November 14. , The Wreck of England's Glory.
The finding of the Court of Enquiry re the wreck of England's Glory exonerates the captain and officers, and blames pilot Thomson for directing the ship in shore, in order that ho might board her, this course bringing her within the influence of the eddies with her head in shore. The Court was of opinion that as a last resouroe, the anchors should have been let go.
