The barque England's Glory, after a protraced voyage from London, haa become a total wreck bebiad the B:uff Hill on the point known as Look-out Point. She lies over to seaward on her starboard beam-ends, and at high water, when onr shipping reporter visited her yesterday afternoon, the water was level with her hatchways ; and although the sea was comparatively smooth, the surf was breaking clean over her hull, notwithstanding that she was lying very Bteady, considering that Bhe is exposed to the full Bwell of Foveaux Straits. Lying as she is, not twenty feet from cliffs covered with evergreens, she presents a most picturesque although melancholy appearance. fier foresail, fore topsail, and upper fore topsail are still Bet, and her mainsail, main-topsail, topgallant and royal are just clewed up ; and, with the Union Jack at tbe fore,_ Bhe looks as though she were still battling for an existence, although there oin be little doubt that she will never floit again. At about eiKht o'clock yesterday morning Captain Gilroy -mgnalled a birque standing in for the Bluff, ■ and shortly afterwards the pilot wanted at Bea. Xt was surmised that it would turn out to be the England's Glory, from London via Nelson, as she was long overdue, and was signalled approaching from the westward. At about halfpast twelve considerable excitement was occasioned at the Bluff by the appearance of five ship's boats fully manned pulling up the harbor. It was at once snrmised that the vessel waa wrecked, and that tbe crew had taken to the boats. These fears proved too true. On the captain landing from the boats our reporter waited upon him, requesting information reelecting the mishap. He, however, expressed onwillingness to give any information excepting that the pilot was in charge when Bhe went ashore. From outside sources I have gained the following particulars : —The barque England's Glory had been at anchor for a week pa9t over at Stewart Island, waiting for an opportunity to run across to the Bluff. Yesterday morning she made tha port with a light •westerly breeze, and signalled over for a pilot. The barque stood in to Look-ont point for the pilot boat, and Capt. Thomson boarded her at the nanal place, nearly half-a-mile from the shore. The helm was at once put hard over and the -foresails trimmed, to pay her off, but she gradually forged ahead and did cot appear to payoff at all, although there wns a good_ commanding breeze. Before she had got sufficiently away she struck forward. The pi'.ot boat at once ran a kedge and hawser out from her and attempts were made to haul her off, bnt withont success. The pumps were sounded, and it was found that she was making water fast, and as Bhe was bumping very heavily, as if every lurch would send the masts oat of her, the boats were at once launched, and the seamen's effects put into them, and all hands left the vessel. A few minutes afterwards she heeled over to seaward with her starboard rail under water. Whether the vessel was brought too close in to receive the pilot on board, or whetfcer the acti <n of the Strait tide prevented her paying. off, and thus c need the mishap, will no doubt be fully inquired into at the investigation which will be held in a few days. During the afternoon the captain went on board, and with the aid of the pilot-boat and two whaleboats succeeded in recovering the greater part of his effects.—" Southland Times," November Bth. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland November 12. The Australia, mail steamehip, arrived, after a rapid passage of nineteen days fifteen and a half hours from San Francisco. She libb the English cricketers on board, viz., Messrs Shaw, Sates, Lillywhite, Pilling, Emmet, Ullyett, Midwinter, Barlow, Peate, Selby, Scotter, for Australia ; and the following other passengers : Allan, Gibbs, George, Duncan, Justice Williams, wife, nurse, and infant. Misses A. Nathan (2), Messrs Bruce, McDonald. Keating, E.liaon, J. A. Mann, Mrs Mann, Mr Mann, jun., MiSßes Mann (2), Messrs C. F. Webb, G. Barton, Jas. Ellis ; fiftefn steerage. Wellington, November 12. The Penguin, which left hero on Thursday for Onehnnga, will leave there at noon tomorrow with the San Francisco mail. She calls at Taranaki, and arrives here on Monday evening, and immediately proceeds South.
