[FBB KBESfI ASSOCIATION J THAMES, November 12. Death of Captain SkeneCaptain James Skene, formerly o£ Sandhurst, who served with distinction during the Waikato war, died this morning. Captain Eraser is now the only surviving officer of the contingent raised in Victoria for New Zealand. LYELL, November 12. Narrow Escape. A nearly fatalaocidenthappened at the Inangahua junction on Thursday. A teamster named Hanna was crossing with a loaded dray, and when in the centre of the stream the force of the ourrent capsized the dray. The cargo was almost entirely destroyed, and the driver carried over the fall, and narrowly escaped drowning. He estimates his loss at fully £IOO. This is the seoond accident at the same place within a fortnight. The ford is daily becoming more dangerous. If a bridge is not ercted at once, traffic will be olmoßt entirely stopped.
