PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATION IN ENGLAND.
The “Pall Mall Gazette” says that tho list of towns unrepresented in Parliament contained in the newly published Parliamentary papers affords a conclusive argument in favor of a redistribution of seats. The following is a list of the larger urban sanitary districts which at present return no members to the House of Commons :
West Ham, 128,692 ; Croydon, 78,947 : St. Helens, 57,231 j Ystradyfodirg, 56,617 j
West Bromwich, 56,299 ; Aston Manor, 53,844 ; Hanley, 48.354 ; Barrow-in-Furness, 47,111 ; Tottenham, 46,441 ; Great Yarmouth, 46 211 5 Burton-upon Trent, 39,285 ; Newport, 35,382 ; Rotherham, 34,782 ; Aberdare, 33,796 ; West Derby, 33,283 ; Gorton, 33 091; Southport, 32,191 ; Accrington, 31,435 ; Tipton, 30,013. To appreciate the significance of this return it is necessary to place it side by side with a list of some of the constituencies now represented in the House: Abingdon, 6571 ; Andover, 5744 ; Athlone 6565 ; Bandon, 6131 ; Bodmin, 6758 ; Brecon* 6308 ; Oalne, 6315 ; Chippenham, 6375 ; Oockermouth, 6936 ; Coleraine, 6588 ; Devizes, 6839; Dorchester, 6915 ; Downpatrick, 4155 j Dungannon, 3866 ; Ennis, 6503 ; Enniskillen, 5836 ; Evesham, 4888 ; Eve, 6721 ; Harwich, 6079; Huntingdon, 6606 ; Kinsale, 7050 ; Knarosborongb, 5205 ; Launceston, 5468 j Leominster, 5863 ; Liekoard, 6576 ; Ludlow, 6203; Lymington, 5356 ; Mallow, 4165 ; Malmesbury, 6879 ; Marlborough, 5034; Marlow, 6627 ; Midhurst, 6753 ; New Ross, 6772 ; Northallerton, 4961; Petersfield, 6104 ; Portarlington, 2560 ; Richmond, 5358 ; Bipon, 6806; Tewkesbury, 5409 ; Thirsk, 5734; Wareham, 6532 ; Westbury, 6396 ; Youghal, 6081.
Thus, while nineteen urban districts with a population of 923,958 are unrepresented, forty-three boroughs with a total population of 256,111 return forty-three members to the House of Common a.
