The Castoms duties collected at Christchurch on Monday, November 7th, were as follows :— Spirits, £368 11s 2d; tobacco, £228 15s lid'; wine, £l2 2s; beer, £77 15s 6d; tea, £3D 9s 2d ; Roods by weight, £Btil ISs ; ad valorem, £961 7» ; other duties, £159 8s lid. Total, £2514 7s Bd. At tho usual sitting of the Waste Lands Board held at Christchurch on November 7tb, sales were made as follows :—Ordinary—Ashley, 9a 3r; Ashbnrton, 21a 3r 15p; Waimate. 10a 2r 21p. Total acreage sold, 42a Or 36p. Total cash received, £174 ISs. Eefands on account of former purchases wore made in the amount of £72 Os 6d. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS. Gketmooth, November 8. Mr G. C. Bowman, of Eeetton, reports for last week :—United Alpine Company, for five and a half days, obtained 244 ounces retorted gold from 180 tons of quartz. During the month 957 tons were crushed, realising 431 ounces of retorted gold. A dividend of 6d per share was declared. Keep it Dark Company—Tho reef is twenty feet thick, showing very good gold. The reef in the upper workings never presented sach a well defined and solid body of stone as it does where it has been ent on this level. Crushing operations will be resumed in. the course of a few days. During the week there has-been a very great demand for shares, which have advanced from 19s to £2 Is 6d; Golden Treasure Company—The winze has been sunk a distance of sixty feet below the eighty-feet level. A very good reef has been carried down the whole of the distance, showing payable gold. The Welcome Company’s return for five days is 100 ounces of amalgam. The Golden Point Company struck exceedingly rich stone, which had the effect of sending up the shares from 3s 9d to 15s. The following are the latest quotations:—Buyers—United Alpine, £1 10s; Golden Treasure, fs 9d j Homeward Bound, 7s; Keep it Dark, £2ls6d; Fiery Cross Extended, 8s; Specimen Hill, 4s ; Golden Point, 15s; Welcome, £7; Croesus (Lyell), 16s 6d. Sellers ask a trifle in advance of these prices.
