WELLINGTON, November 5.
Mr Bryce entered Parihaka at 9 a.m. There was a crowd of Natives. Mr Butler demanded an answer to the proclamation. He received no reply. The Riot Act was read at 9.30, and an hour allowed before action. The Natives are in holiday attire, and there were no signs of resistance, except passive. Te Whiti exhorted them te sit close and beep a stont heart. Hiroki is present. The Natives are surrounded.

PUNGAREHU, November 5,
The troops advanced from both camps at 5 a.m. on Farihaka. There was great excitement. The Armed Constabulary entered first. The Nelson and Thames Volunteers, under command of Major Pitt, formed the left flank, the Canterbury and Marlborough volunteers the right flank, and the Wellington and Thames Navals the centre. The Riot Act was read. There was great hakas by the boys, and the men were in good spirits. The volunteers closed on Farihaka at 11 a.m. Te Whiti was arrested by Major Tnke at 11.30 a.m. Tohu was then arrested, but there was no resistance. The volunteers were placed. Hiroki was afterwards arrested. Te Whiti and Tohu have been sent to New Plymouth.

A number of strange young Natives were hanging round a deserted pah at Manutahi this morning. The settlers became alarmed, and had a meeting, and sent a mounted messenger here to telegraph to the Government for arms. A number of Woodville settlers came in yesterday with their bag and baggage.
