The race for the Melbourne Cup took place to-day, and resulted as follows: Zulu (Barbarian —Maiden Blush), 3 yrs, Sst 71b I The Czar, 6:t 91b ... - Sweetmeat, Oat 31b ... Tho following horses started :■— Sweetmeat, Wellington, Savanaka, First Water, Sir Modred, Suwarrow, Lord Burleigh, Odd Trick, Waterloo, Bafchhurat, Canary, W andering Jew, Tramp Y oss, Darebin, Pawnbroker, Bandalbion, Tzar, Wheatoar, Somnus, Orient. Pollio, Guinea, Carmen, Waxy, Greyhound, Santa Claus, Duchess, Cockney, Zulu, Oxalia. Somnus cut out tho running for the first quarter of a mile, followed by Zulu. At three quarters of a mile from home Zulu took the lead, and was never caught, winning tho race by two lengths. Time, 3min 32-V=ocs. The weather was fine, and there was an immense attendance on tho course. The members of the betting ring win considerably over Zulu's victory. WINNERS OF THE MELBOURNE CUP. Two miles.
