I ship, rendered vacant in oonsequence of the retirement of Judge Hargreaves. The Church of England Synod, upon the assurance of Mr Cox that Mr Smith meant nothing irreverent in his recont spoech regarding the Psalms of David, withdrew their ruling exoluding Mr Smith from its deliberations. The Synod closed on the 21at. A resolution favoring the establishment, of a tribunal trial by Bishops was adopted; also, the report of the committee favoring the foundation of a widows' and orphans' fund. A Chille Cosuliob, the captain of the Austrian Mercantile Marine, committed suicide at the Marine Hotel on the 21st. He shot himself through the head. Ihe cause is believed to be impeouniosity. At the inquest on Walter Buoknell, who was killed through falling down a torpedo shaft at George's Head, a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned. I The death is announced of Mr Leary, a late membor of the Assembly, and for some time Minister of Justice under the Farnell Administration. Obituary.—Dr. Andrew Moffatt, President of the New South Wales Branoh of the British Medical Association, after dining with his family, on the 21st int., suddenly leant forward and expired from heart disease. MELBOURNE, October 26. Hoskings, the olerk who lateiy forged Government land grants, has been traced to Bombay. An arrest warrant has been forwarded. Judge Molesworth resumed his seat on the Bench on the 17th, after six months' illness.
