ASSEMBLY TATTERS ALL’S.
THE BSTTING MARKET, [By the Fbiah.] For the past fortnight the betting elides have shown very great animation, which has boon added to day by day, and the recent transactions have been of an important character, Billy Pattens, who has been previoualy quoted at 100 to 25 for the Stanmore Steeplecnase, having advanced to 2 to 1, at which sum ho is taken freely, whilst Folle Fariue is being offered for the same event at 100 to 1, without being taken ; the other horse, Peter Flat, is offered at 10 to 1, without, however, leading to much business. For the Lyttelton Meeting I hear that The N avvy is in good demand, (having hardened very much daring the last few days, owing to the very indifferent performance of Cobweb on the training ground. I have ascertained that 7 to 4 is his present price, at which ho in in demand, the Artist being quoted at 10 to 4, while Cobweb has so far receded that no enquiries have been made for him. A strong reaction has sot in in favor of Metallician in consequence of the other horse, Capias, having gone wrong. Consequently, the former horse has been well supported during the last few days, and as some of the Irishman’s supporters are trying to edge, I am inclined to think there is some truth In the rumor. Certain it is he has recoded in the betting, being quoted at 10 to 6, about half the rates ruling a week ago, without leading to business; whilst Metallician is receiving support at 5 to 4, For the North Christchurch Spring Meeting, Old Cremation, who was offered and taken at 5 to 3 a fortnight ago, has also receded to 5 to 1, and even at that price nobody seemed inclined to back him. This was occasioned through Timeo’-Day having shown superiority on the Gaiety grounds, resulting in his hardening on the market, he being supported for plenty of money at Cremation’s old price, sto 3. For the Sydenham fixture, Quilldriver has improved somewhat, being at 3 to 1, whilst Stonechatter and Mortmain are cot Inquired for, at 10 to 2 and 10 to 1 respectively. The Heathoote fixture is not exciting much interest, as bets of 100 to 1 on old Stonewaller and Drum-Major are spoken of and langhed at, which tend to show that neither of them are np to much, and it is not likely that any bets will be taken till it is known whether anything else accepts. For the Kaiapoi event. Old Millowner is In good demand at 5 to 4, and a few bets have been made at long odds on I.oeshore, For the fit, Albans fixture. Old Mawworm is improving his position, having crept up to 3 to 1, whilst Traractr is still quoted at 10 to 1, Banco not being in the betting. The following are the latest quotations :
