CHRISTCHURCH. Satdbday, Ocxobbb 29. fßefore G. L. Melliflh, Esq., R.M.] Dbukkbnnebs. —For a firat offence a man was fined ss. Uabceky.—Thomas Reid, charged with stealing a pair of shoes, valued at 17a 6d, tho property of Norris Gibbs, was, on the application of tho police, remanded till October 31st. Attempted Suicide —Mary Manning, who had just been discharged from the Hospital, recovered from wounds self-inflicted, was brought up charged with the above offence. The police stated that about a month ago her house at Papanui was burnt down, and, she being in weak health, the occurrence seemed to weigh upon her. About a fortnight since she had cut her throat. She had been taken to the Hospital, and had now recovered. The Magistrate, after a few words of remonstrance, allowed her to go without inflicting a penalty.
