. The cargo of beef brought per steamship Garonne was sold to-day in Smithfield market, and the carcases realised an average of 4d per pound. Tho cargo had been partially displaced in the refrigerating chambers, owing to the severity of the weather on the voyage, and the moat was therefore not in the best condition.

The Markets. Consols are unchanged at 99. Tho total reserve in notes and bullion in tho Bank of England is £10,750,000. Now Zealand securities remain at the following quotations :—Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 100. ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 103 f ; Four and a-Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 98-J. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 575; New Zealand ditto, 645; Adelaide flour, ex store, 425; Australian tallow—best beef, 395; best mutton, 425. There is a fair demand for most descriptions of bides. Prices rule lower. VIENNA, October 27. Continental Heads. King Humbert and Queen Margberita arrived hero from Rome on a visit to the Emperor Francis Joseph. Their Majesties wore received with great enthusiasm on entering into the city. BERLIN, October 27. The Elections. The general elections to tho Reichstag commenced to day throughout tho empire. The contest which took place for the representation of this city resulted in the return of Liberal candidates by considerable majorities.
