Advices received by cable from Sydney today announce the wreck of the barque Glimpse, belonging to Stone Bros , of Auckland, 2DO miles from Sydney Heads. Bight men were picked up by the Ooongbara and three were drowned, including the captain’s son. WELLINGTON, October 29. Supposed Robbery by Natives. The Government have received a telegram stating that the whare of Mr Fleming, who was recently molested by the Natives, has been broken into end robbed of wearing apparel and a silver watch. It is supposed to have been done by some Natives, who are leaving that district. TIMARU, October 23. Teacher’s Association. The first general meeting of the South Canterbury Teachers’ Association was held to-day, to adopt rules and elect officers. The objects of the association are stated to be the promotion of educational interests, and for the general benefit of schoolmasters. An address of interest to teachers generally is promised for next month’s meeting. ElectoralMr J. T. Partridge, a working jeweller, stands for Timaru on the working man’s ticket. DUNEDIN, October 29. ElectoralMr Hodgkinson received a vote of confidence from the Lindon portion of the Boslyn electorate. Ho strongly supports the Ministerial action re Native affairs, and agrees with Bible reading in schools, but opposes separation and railway construction by private companies.
