At the Police Court to-day Mr Thorp, late teller of the Bank of Victoria, was brought up on remand, charged with the embezzlement of £2500. It was stated in evidence that the prisoner justified the robbery, and declared that Mr Shann, tho manager, took cash and substituted a cheque for it. WoolGoldsbrough's mammoth wool sales, which opened on the 12th, closed to-day. During the series 16,000 bales were offered and 10,500 were sold. Large purchases [wore made for America and the Continent. The prices for greasy ruled from sevenpence to fifteenpence half-penny. Mr Ramsey's Motion. The debate on Mr Ramsey's amended motion regarding the education commission was resumed in the Assembly this afternoon, and is still proceeding.
