CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, Ootobbb 20. [Before Q. Mellish, R.M., and B. Westenra, J.P.] Drunkenness. —For first offences, two men were fined each ss. Wilful Destruction op Peopebty.— Frank Thompson pleaded guilty to an offence of this description. Ho had gone into Richardson’s Empire Hotel when very drunk, and had by some means fell through a pane of glass. Witnesses were not prepared to say that the damage had been done wilfully. Accused was therefore ordered to pay the cost of the window £l, and the case was dismissed.
Disobeying an Oedbb of Coubt,— Denis Sheehan, on remand, was again brought up charged with neglecting to pay the allowance to his wife ordered by the Court. He was still unable to pay up the arrears due, and pleading extreme poverty, begged hard not to bo sent to prison His Worship adjourned the case for a fortnight, warning him that unless ho paid something by that time ho would have to go to gaol. Attempted Suicide.— Anna Utting, whose case had been adjourned on the previous day, being again brought up, the Magistrate said that he had made arrangements for her care for a while. The police were then instructed to hand her over to the Hospital authorities, who had agreed to take charge of her.
