The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Monday, October 17th, were oa follows s Spirits, .£330 9s lOd ; tobacco, .£lO2 14a fid ; wine, £7 10s ; beer. £l7 6s 6d ; sugar, £24 15a Id; tea, £33 15a 8d ; goods by weight, £237 7s ; ad valorem, £45 6s. Total, £BOB 4s 7d. At the usual sitting of the Waste Lands Board, held at Christchurch on Monday, October 17th, sales were made as follows: — Ordinary—Ashley, 55 acres 1 rood; Akaroa, 61 acres ; Geraldine, 3 acres. Deferred payments, village settlement, South Hakaia, 4 acres 2 roods 2 perches. Total acreage sold, 123 acres 3 roods 2 perches. Total cash received, £283 12s 6d. Refunds on account of former purchases were made in the amount of £l2. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The grain market has not been very active during the past week, and business has in consequence heen confined within a small compass. Wheat is a shade easier, owing to the less favorable state of the European markets, but holders do not care to accept lower rates. Some soles have been made at 4s fid for fair samples, but holders generally seek more. Wo note with pleasure the departure of another cargo of wheat for a French port It is evident our wheat is beginning to be properly known in other than English markets. Oats have not been offering so freely, and a few sales have taken place at 2s. Barley is in improved inquiry, owing to maltsters and others entering fhe market, and sales of fair quality have been effected at 3s to 3s fid. Flour Is in fair demand at £ll 10s per ton for beat brands. The potato season is now over, and there are but few who trade in this esculent, who have not good cause to recollect the season just closed as anything but a satisfactory one. Dairy produce is very quiet, and quotations normal.
