[bbutbb's tblegeams.] LONDON, October 17. The Reported Arrest of O'Connor. It now transpires that the announcement made on the 14th inst. that Mr. Arthur O'Connor, M.P. for Queen's County, was in custody, was premature. It appears that hearing that the warrant had been issued, he made his escape to England, and is still at large. Affairs in Ireland. Serious rioting took place at Mallow, in County Cork, yesterday, between the troops and people. The former fired upon and then charged the rioters, several of whom were severely injured before they were dispersed. A large meeting under the auspices of the Land League, which was being held yesterday at Limerick and was attended by a great many people, was suppressed by order of the Government, a large force of police being despatched to disperse the assemblage. Recent speeches by English democrats have denounced in strong terms the course now being pursued by the Government in Ireland. CALCUTTA, October 17. The Afghan War. Telegrams have been received from Afghanistan announcing that the Ameer's Turkistan army has occupied Herat, which has been evacuated by Ayoub Khan, in accordance with the announcement made at the beginning of this month. The British garrison at Quettah, in North Beloochistan, near the Afghanistan frontier, has been largely reduced. CONSTANTINOPLE, October 17. The Mission Recalled. It has transpired that the Sultan has recalled the mission which was recently dispatched to the Khedive of Egypt.
