CONVERSAZIONE.
The members of the Saint Paul’s Young Men’s Society are to be greatly congratulated upon the thorough and complete success attendant upon their efforts to make their conversazione enjoyable. The Oddfellows’ Hall was crowded, considering the warmth of the evening, inconveniently so. The room was prettily decorated, the windows being draped with crimson and white curtains, and the stage filled with pot plants. The tables were laden with curiosities of all kinds, Japanese and Chinese fans and curios, pictures, graphoscopes, microscopes, &c., indeed there was something not only to amuse but interest everyone. The walls were hung with some excellent pictures, amongst others sea pieces by Mr White, landscapes by Mr Gibb, water colours by Messrs Burchell and Billeus, and a number of pictures of Scottish scenery. During the evening Mr C. E. Button exhibited a number of dissolving views, and t- e pleasure of seeing these was considerably enhanced by the qnaint manner in which the exhibitor described some of them. Mr Meddings had kindly laid) on a telegraph wire from one room to the ether, and the telephone was also in full work. Judging from the shrieks of deKght issuing from one corner whore the galvanic battery was placed, the operator must have been having a high old time amongst his lady subjects. Miss Ness and others daring the evening rendered some excellent music, and generally the gathering was a most enjoyable one throughout.
