At a meeting of the building trade yesternight, at which thirty were present, it wa* decided to work eight and half a hours per day and have a half-holiday on Saturdays, Scholastic. At a meeting of the Grammar School Governors to-day it wbb decided to erect a boarding establishment capable of accommodating forty pupils. ArrestGarrard, the agitator, was brought before the magistrate this morning charged with personating. WELLINGTON, October 14. The Cabinet Mr Oliver has accepted a seat in the Cabinet without portfolio. His Excellency will be advised to call him to the Legislative Council. NELSON, October 14. To the Front. At a parade of the Artillery to-night, between fifty and sixty being present, all offered their services in case of bing required, and unconditionally. The Artillery, Naval and City Rifles have now offered their services, with the exception of one man. DUNEDIN, October 14. The ElectionsCaptain Scott was favorably received at Boslyn. Ho announced himself a thorough free-trader, a supporter of the Bible in schools, and he would give the Government independent support. ItTy Murray addressed the constituents at Milton last night. A motion was moved—- " That the meeting endorse Mr Murray’s action during the past session.” To this was afterwards added— “ That Mr Murray bo invited to offer himself for re-election.” An amendment was moved, thanking him for his past services and address ; but, considering that there are two local candidates in the field he should retire. Twenty voted for the amendment. The motion was carrie dby a large majority. DUNTROON, October 14. SportingThe Duntroon Jockey Club races wore held to-day. For the Maiden Plate—Yaldhurst (Clifford) was first, Shepherdess second, and Bake third. Five started, and Yaldhurst won easily. For the Trotting Race, Mooney was first, Agent second, and Charlie third.
