HAWKE’S BAY J.O. RACES. [PBSBB ASSOCIATION TBLBOBAH.J NAPIER, October 11. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club Spring Meeting to-day was very successful. The attendance was large, the fields good, and the racing fair. Hawke’s Bay Guineas of 105 sovs, with a sweep of 5 sovs added j colts Bst 101 b, fillies Bst 51b ; one mile. Value of stakes, £149. Mr Walters’ Hippo—Slander Filly 1 Mr Russell's Kincraig, Javelin—Hannah ... 2 Mr Bussell's Sydney, Javelin—Mina ... _ 3 McDonald’s The Squire, Douglas’ Panic, Donnelley’s Otupapa also ran. Betting: 6 to 4 on Slander Filly, even The Squire, 2 to 1 agst Occult Colt, 3 to 6 to 1 the rest. Occult Colt jumped off with the lead, followed by Slander Filly, Squire, Kincraig, and Panic in the order named. Mr Walters’ filly soon took the lead. The Squire was called on, hut could never get on terms, and entering the straight he bolted inside a post. Slander filly won easily three lengths from Kincraig, Sydney third, Panic last. Mr Bnddick’s Morning Star, 10st ... 0 Betting—B to 1 on Morning Star, 2to 1 agst Lomond and Ura, 5 to 1 agst Will-if-I-can. Will-it-Loan was first over the hurdles, Lomond second, Ura third, Morning Star last. At the second hurdle Will-if-I-can dropped back, leaving Lomond in command, but the latter quickly resigned in favor of the Star, who got a lead of three lengths. At the fourth hurdle Stag and bis rider parted company, and Lomond then took the lead, but at tho back of the course the second time round he hit his hurdle, losing several lengths, and letting Ura get on terms. The latter passed him in the straight and won by three lengths. Spuing Handicap, of 200 sovs ; one mile and a-half.

Mr MacDonald declared to win with Badsworth. The flag fell to a wretched start, Duchess having the worst of it. Rewi made play and hold the lead of ten lengths on passing the stand, followed by Badsworth, My Dream, Mischief, and Foul Play. Rewi soon dropped back, while Foul Play improved his position, and on coming into the straight that old horse had it all his own way. Williams stopped him and allowed his stable companion to win, Grand Duchess being an indifferent third. The favorite out up badly, never being dangerous at any part of the race. Maiden Plate of 50 sovs, weight for age; one mile and a quarter. The winner of tho Guineas to carry 71b penalty. Mr Walter’s Slander filly and Mr McLean’s Louie ... ... ... ••• ... ... I Mr Douglas’ Venture ... ••• 3 Mr Donelly’s Oressoge, Mr MacDonald’s The Squire also ran. Betting—2 to lon Slander filly, 6 to 4 agst Squire, 3 to 1 Venture, 4 to 6 to 1 the others. Venture made the running for half a mile, when she gave way to the Slander filly, who led to the railway turn, when she was challenged by Louie. The pair ran together into the straight, and the race terminated in a dead heat. Flying Handicap of 75 sovs ; the winner of Spring Handicap to carry 71b penalty. Mr Martin’s Mischief, 7st 21b 1 Mr McDonald’s Foul Play, 9st 91b 2 Mr Jones’ Prim, sst 101 b ... ... ... 3 Mr Bussell’s Nellie and Mr Walters’ Grand Duchess also started. Betting—2 to 1 on Foul Play, 6 to 4 agst Duchess, 2 to 1 Prim, 3t05 to 1 the others. Prim rushed to the front, Mischief next, then Foul Play and Duchess last. In the straight Mischief came away, and although Foul Play tried to get on terms, he could not manage it, Mischief getting first past the post by a neck, Prim a good third, Duchess fourth. Time, Imin isec. Final payments have been made for the Racing Club’s Handicap to-morrow :—Badsworth, Foul Play, Grand Duchess, and Prim.
