Consols remain at 98-f-. The New Zealand securities are unchanged at the following :—Five per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 102£ ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 102£; Four and a Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 99£. The market rate of discount has advanced to Four and a Quarter per Cent.; Bank rate Four per Cent. Adelaide and New Zealand breadstuffs are without quotable change. Australian tallow—Best beef, 365; best mutton, 435. At the wool sale to-day, 10,900 bales were offered. An active demand was experienced for all descriptions. Obituary. Obituary—Sir Jobn Karslake, Q.C., aged 60. PARIS, October 5. iThe Invasion of Tunis. It is announced bere that in consequence of the increase of the Arab rising in Tunis, instructions bave been sent by the Government to the French commander to complete the military occupaof the country, with the object of effectually quelling the rebellion. SAN FRANCISCO, October 5. The Mail. The Pacific Mail steamship Australia, which left Auckland on September 13th, arrived here yesterday.
