NORTH CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The annual meeting was held at M'Lean’s Hotel on Tuesday. Present —Messrs M'Donald (in the chair), M‘Kay, J. D. M’Kay, Boss, Watt, M'Naught, Hunter, Lemon, Kemp, Hawkes, Green, M'Adam, Geddes, Myles Campbell, A. M’Beth, Q. Anderson, Brown, Bouse, Forbes. A telegram was received from Mr L. 0. Williams, hon. sec., apologising for his unavoidable absence on business matters in Christchurch.—The Chairman read a rough balance-sheet showing a creditor balance at present of £l7 9s 9d. He had much pleasure in moving the adoption of the report, which he considered highly satisfactory. Mr Myles Campbell seconded the adoption of the report, which was carried unanimously.—The Chairman thought that before the officers were appointed, the place and date of the meeting should be fixed upon. Mr D. Watt proposed, seconded by Mr D. M‘Kay—“ That the gathering take place in Amberley.” Carried unanimously. Mr A. M'Beth proposed, and Mr G. Anderson seconded —“ That the gathering take place on the 17th March as last year. ” —Mr D. Watt moved as an amendment —“ That the gathering take place on the Ist January.” Seconded by Mr G. Kemp. The resolution was carried by 11 to 5. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr A. M'Donald ; vice-presidents, Messrs John Fulton, Myles Campbell, John Cameron, Piper and J. M‘Kay. The appointment of treasurer and secretary was postponed till next meeting. The following gentlemen were added to the list of directors :—Messrs Hay Barclay, J. A. Cunningham, J. B. Hunter, J. Lewton, A. Mcßeth, J. Geddes, E. Hawkes, G. Anderson, F. Green, McQuinn, D. Brown, W. Traill, J. Bouse. Auditors: Messrs MoAdam and Fcrrar. Proposed by Mr Myles Campbell, seconded by Mr D. Watt—“ That a sum of £5 be voted out of the balance in hand in aid of the widows and orphans left destitute in the Shel land Isles.” Carried. A subscription list in aid of the same purpose was handed round the room, when the amount of £lO 5s was subscribed. The president undertook to see that the amount was forwarded to the proper persons to receive it. It was decided, upon the motion of Mr M'Naught, that a ball under the auspices of the society be held on New Year’s Eve. It was decided to hold the next meeting on November 30th, to arrange for the ball and draw up programme of sports for the annual gathering. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, and the meeting adjourned.
