DRAINAGE BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held I at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. Present —Messrs I H. J. Tmcred (ohairmau), J. E. Brown, W. White, junr., J. V. Boss, O. OuH, O. B. I Blakiston, and F. Hobbs. An apology was received from Mr E. J. 8. Harman for nonattendance at the meeting. The engineer's report was read and considered clause by clause. The following correspondence was road : From the Sydenham Borough Council, stating that Jackson's creek was in a very unwholesome state. From a nuaber of ratepayers of Bingsland, asking that the Board would favorably consider the drainage of that part of the district. From, •oortain inhabitants of Selwyn Btreot south, respecting the flooding of the district, caused 'by the fact that there was only one outlet, for the large body of w ator coming from Lincoln road, Addington, and ourrounding districts. From Mr Fabling, asking how long the Board would require his paddock, and asking that the surplus earth might be removed at once. From Mr J. O. MoDowall, asking that the side drains on the Bicoarton road might be filled up. From M.- 1 Jones, stating his willingness to take £2O as compensation for the construction of a drain through his property. From Mr Henry "Wright to a similar effect. From the Orioket and Athletic Sports Company, stating that it had no objection to a drain passing through •the company's property if it was covered, and in that oase they would require no compensation.

The correspondence was dealt with as follows:—The question of the Bingsland drainage was postponed until next meeting. The'Engineer stated, as regarded the complaint about Jackson's creek, that men had been sent to cloaa it out. With regard to the petition of certain residents of Selwyn street couth, it was decided to refer the matter to the engineer to report. The same course was taken with regard to Mr Fabling's letter. The engineer stated that, in connection with Mr McDowall's letter, Mr Ellis had been requested to fill up the side channels some days ago, as they were not now being used by the Board. The Board decided, with xeference to the letters of Messrs Jones and Wright, and the Orioket and Athlotio Sports Association, that the matter be deferred until next meeting. Several accounts amounting to £4lB were passed for payment.—Mossrs Cuff, Harman, and White were appointed as a sub-committee to decide as to what lines of pipes should be proceeded with. Mr Brown moved—" That the time of meeting of the Board be at 2.30 p.m. in future instead of 1.30 p m." Mr Boss seconded the motion, which was agreed to.—The Board then adjourned.
