RobberyA robbery was committed in Mr Arthur’s stores. The burglar concealed himself on the premises all night, and stole £39. WELLINGTON, September 28. Volunteering for the Front. At the annual dinner of the Wellington Artillery, the Lieutenant Commanding stated that the battery had decided to offer its services to the Government to go to tho front. Burglary. Tho railway and post office at Featherston was entered on Sunday night or Monday morning, when £6 14s in oesh and tickets representing 18s 8d were abstracted. The doors and windows were found secure and there is no clue to the culprit, DUNEDIN, September 28. Judicial. Judge Johnston leaves for Christchurch on October 15th, returning hereon October 29th. Ihe Benevolent InstituteMessrs Bathgate and Logan, in their report re the Benevolent Institution, consider the enquiry was a mistake, as they had no power to examine on oath. Nothing had come under their notice to lead to the faintest suspicion that there wes any defect or irregularity in the management or to abate the confidence of the public. If limited to its proper uses, the Benevolent Institute was an invaluable charity, doing a large amount of good work with comparatively small means. The committee were entitled to the warmest thanks of the public for their gratuitous and philanthropic labors.
