CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the above was held ah 3 p.m. yesterday. Present —Mr W. Montgomery (chairman), the Primate, Measra H. J. Tanored, W. J. W. Hamilton, K. W. Feroday, F. de C. Malet, O. O. Bawon, J. Inglis, H. P. Lsnco, and H. K. Wobb. The Chairman said before the Board went into the bu3tncs3 of the day he wished to return to ths members of tho Board his thanks for the honour done him in re-electing him as ohairman.—ln answer to Dr. Turnbuli the Ohairman said ho would bring the matter of the position of the Public Library oe rezardod the College, and aloo that of the caretakers' house, before tho Board at oa early date.

The report of the College committee was read as follows : Tho committee recommends tho Board to grant a sum not exceeding .£35 to the cricket club of the Boya' High School for payment of expenses of keeping of tho ground in order. Tho committee recommends tho Beard to authori-o the committee to make fresh arrangomeut.4 with regard to the teachera' salaries at the Girla' High School far tho nest term After some discussion, in which Messrs C. C. Bowen, Malet, Hamilton, ths Chairman, and Dr. Turnbull took part, clauae 1 was oarried on the voices.

A lengthy discussion ensued on clause 2, which was ultimately postponed for the present.—A le;ter was read from tho Bev. O. Tarrell, stating that he wa3 opening a boarding house for scholars at tho High School, and asking for the support of the Board of Governors. In connection with this letter tho Collego Committee roported as follows:

That the committee recommend the following as regards Mr Terrell's application. That the Board will be glad to toe such a boarding house as that Mr \urrell proposes established, but cannot undertake tho responsibility of recognising by license or otherwise the connection of any boarding house with tho High School. Tho report of the Eatates Committee wa3 read and adopted. On the Beard resuming, tho business done in committee was reported and agreed to, and the Board thon adjourn'id.
