The City Corporation at a sitting today adopted an address of condolence with Mrs Garfield on the loss of her husband.

M. Roustan, French Resident in Tunis, who has been on a visit to this city for the purpose of conferring with his Government in regard to the position of affairs in Tunis, has now returned to his post.
CALCUTTA, September 22. The Ameer’s Position.
Telegrams received t®*day from Candahar report that the Ameer has formed a now camp in the neighborhood of the city, and one which commands the roads to both Herat and Candahar.

The Hew President.
General Arthur, in his inaugural address on assuming office, expressed & hope that he might profit by the good example and experience of the late President. Ho further stated that he did not consider it necessary to call Parliament together at tho present time.
