At the wool sales yesterday 6300 bales were offered, and an active demand was shown for all descriptions offered. The tone of to-day’s sale was, however, weaker; 7100 hales were catalogued. The total quantity withdrawn from sale since the commencement of the series is 21,000 bales. The auctions close on October Bth, September 23. The Late President Garfield* It has transpired that the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone, in consideration of the estimation in which the late President Garfield was held, has made a request to tho City Corporation for the erection of a bust of the deceased in Guildhall.
