Dbunkehnbss.—For a first offence a man was fined Is; Joanna Gallagher was fined ss, and cab hire Is, or twenty-four hours' imprisonment ; Mary Ann Greaves and Ellen Jordon, described as habitual drunkards, were sent to gaol to be kept to hard labor, the first for three months, and Jordon for six months. Laecbmy.—William James Nankarvis, who had only yesterday been discharged on a

charge, which was not proven, of stealing- a pair of opera glasses, vai brought up for stealing a pair of boots, valued at 16s 6d, from out of tho shop of John Percy, boot maker, of High street, on Tuesday evening. He had been seen by a witness, who was standing in the City Hotel, whioh is opposite the shop, to piok up the boots, and place them under his ooat, and they were found on him on the spot. Prisoner pleaded guilty. His Worship said that prisoner had nominally done six months' imprisonment already this year, and he seemingly liked it. He was sentenced on this occasion to six months' imprisonment with hard labor at Lyttelton gaol. Ebmand.—Charles Bylands, brought up a third time on a oharge of obtaining goods by means of a valueless cheque, was again remanded till September 28th. Burnham School Childbbn.—Martha Green, whose term had expired, she haviDg been oommitted to the school for one year for destroying fowls, &0., and whose parents were stated to be unfit, by reason of int smperate habits, to have charge of her, was recommitted to the institution for a period of six years.
