OHKISIOHUEOH. Tuesday, September 20. [Before R. Westenra and J. E. Parker, Bsqs.] Supposed Labobny.—W. J. Nankarvis, well known to the police, and in whose possession a pair of opera glasses, valued at £l, were found, was now brought up on remand from September 17th and charged with stealing the same. The police stated that prisoner on Friday last, being only a few hours releaeed from gaol, where he had been confined on a sentence for larceny, called at the Golden Fleece Hotel when drunk, and fell asleep there. Ho had the glasses in his hand, which the barman took away from him, and handed to the police. Next day ho denied to Constable O’Connor any knowledge as to how he came by them and was arrested. Evidence to the above effect having been taken, and prisoner repeating the statement he had made to the police, the Bench said there was not evidence enough to convict. The prisoner was then dismissed with a caution.

Remand.—Robert Montgomery, remanded from Monday on a charge of haying created a disturbance at the Zetland Arms on Saturday last, was on the application of Mr Stringer, who now appeared for him, remanded till Saturday, the 24th inst., to allow of the production of a witness for the defence. The same bail was enlarged.
