LICENSING COURT.
QUARTERLY SITTING. Tuesday, Septbmbbb 13. [Before J. Nugent Wood (chairman), H. J. Tailored and G-. L. Lee, Esq?., Commissioners.] New Licenses.—Mr Stringer applied on behalf of Fredk. Day for a hotel license for new premises building at Sumner. Mr Thomas and Mr Slater, on the part of several householders, opposed. As it appeared that the house is not quite finiohed, the hearing was postponed for a fortnight.—Mr Thomas, on behalf of E. Wetherel), applied for change of license from wine and beer to hotel, at Cava Rock, Sumner. As alterations are going on, the case was adjourned for a fortnight. The application of G-. P. Kissel for hotel lioense at Templeton was not considered on the same grounds. The Bench stated it was not competent for them to grant licenses for premises which are not finished. They had made up their minds to grant a license to Mr Kissel when his place is finished ; at present, not being ready with his premises, the lioense could not be granted.—An application from G-. Simmonds for transfer of lioense from the George and Dragon, Templeton, to premises yet to be built was not entertained.—An application was made by Mr Poroeval, on the part of E. Mitchell, for an expression of opinion from the Bench as to whothor they would grant him a lioense for a first- olats hotel in Cathedral square if he built it. Counsel exhibited magnificent plant designed for a house to bo erected in the square on the corner near the tramway terminus. The Bench refused to listen to anything about it. As they said before, Hocuses would not be granted beforehand j they must be ready before applicants came to that Court; and, secondly, there would shortly be a new Court constituted, and the present occupiers of the Bench declined to commit their successors to any promises.—An application on the part of William Walls for a hotel lioense for premise! at Sandridgc, Sydenham, was refused. Conpibmatioit op Tkawspbbs.—Transfers wore confirmed as follows :—H. Fenton, to ' now premises, Heathcote Arms Hotel.—Beatty to Berti, Palace Hotel, Christchurch.—Bcrti to Searlo, Foresters' Arms Hotel, Christchurch.— Smith to Knowsley, Queen's Hotel, Christchurch.—Savago to Keane, Scotch Stores (General), Ohristohuroh.—Seabright to Toovey. Zetland Arms Hotel, Christohuroh. —Amyes to Young, Papanui Hotel.—Lewis to Dyer, Riccarton Hotel, Riccarton. Endobsbd Liobnsb.—Thomas Mullino, jun.. the holder of a hotel license at the Junction Hotel, Linooln road, was ordered to ba cited to appear at tho adjourned meeting of the Court, to show causo why his license should not be cancelled, on account of an endorsement by the Bench at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Ohristohuroh, relating to a ca 8e of gambling in his house, heard before that Court some time ago. The Court then adjourned till September 27th.
