Last evening tho wife of Constable Houghton, while walking behind her husband across the railway bridge at Helensville, was blown off. Her husband beard her scream and jumped off in the darkness, landing in mud, and became so deeply embedded that he could not move. A child who saw the occurrence ran to the station, and Hull, a railway porter, umped into the creek and caught Mrs Soughton, who had drifted a hundred yards with her head under the water. Hull was unable to land owing to the mud, but he held the woman's head out of tho water until both were resoused by a boat. Animation was restored with difficulty.
