Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary altera* tions) as under : THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. For Northern Ports of New Zealand and Chatham Islands (per Omaha from Auckland), per Te Anan, at 1.45 p.m. ; late fee letters, 2 p.m. ; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10. For United Kingdom, Continents of Europe and America, West Indies, Cape ot Good Hope, Natal, (via San Francisco), Sandwich Islands, Northern Ports of New Zealand, &0., per Penguin, as follows:—Ordinary letters at 6.30 p.m.; late fee letters, at 7 p.m. ; books and newspapers, at 6.30 p.m.; money orders at 4 p.m.; registered letters, at 5 p.m.; guard’s van, 8.30 p.m. train. This mail will be due in London on October 25th. Notice. —On and after Ist September the mail service between Christchurch and Papanui will bo twice daily, carried by tram cars.
