FATAL ACCIDENTS.
An accident occurred at Messrs Austin and Kirk's coal mine, Sheffield, on Wednesday night, at nine o'clock. It appears that a littlo boy named Phillips, about ten years old, has been in the habit for some time past of visiting the pit for the purpose of watching his elder brothers at work. On the night in question he went into the pit as usual, and after a time he fell asleep in the drive with his head resting on a stool, when a large lump of coal and olay fell on his head, killing him instantaneously. His remains were oarried to a house close by to await an inquest. Yeßterday, before Dr. Trevor, ooroner, Bn inquest was held on the body of Charles Cyril Collins, infant son of Mr Henry Collins, schoolmaster, Mount Somers. The medical testimony went to prove that death resulted from suffocation, induced by overlaying._ The jury, without retiring, returned a verdiot of "Accidental Death by Suffocation," and unanimously exonerated the mother from blame.
