[hetjteb’s telegbams.] LONDON, August 30. The Markets. Three per Cent. Consols have fallen one-quarter, and are quoted to-day at 99 g-. Now Zealand securities are unchanged at the following quotations :—Fire Per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 104; Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 102 j , Four and a-half Per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 99£, Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 59a; New Zealand wheat, ex ship, at 58s; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 425. The wheat market is firm. Australian tallow continues firm —best beef, 36s ; best mutton, 38s. At the wool sales to-day 8600 bales were offered, making a total of 65,100 catalogued since the opening. A good demand was experienced. Inferior and faulty wools of all kinds and fleeces are in favor of buyers. LONDON, August 31. A New Knight. It is officially announced that the Bight Hon. H. B. W. Brand, Speaker of the House of Commons, has been created a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath. BERNE, August 31. The Vine DiseaseThe Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation has initiated proposals to the various European Governments for the purpose of convening an International Convention, to be held at Basle, Switzerland, in October next, to consider the question of the phylloxera disease in vines.
