THE WELLINGTON DOCK.
WELLINGTON, August 29. A large meeting was held to night to consider the dry dock question. The Mayor presided. The following resolutions were carried unanimously::—i(l) That a dock suitable for vessels of all classes be erected without delay in Wellington, and that this port not having the requisite accommodation for shipping, U detrimental not only to tho interests of Wellington, but to the colony at largo. Wellington possesses every advantage and natural facilities for such work, her port being centrally situated in the colony, and possessing one of the finest harbors in the world placed on tho high road of commerce between Australia and the European and American Continents." (2) “ That the Harbor Board and City Council should heartily join together in forming a dry dock in connection with Te Aro reclamation, and that both works be commenced as soon as possible.” (3) “As the Harbor Board has no assets to borrow money on to build the dock, the City Council should at once enter •jbto an agreement with the Harbor Board to hyiHd the dock in connection with the reelsmatioc. and that a requisite sum for both works ihpuld be borrowed on both land and jo ok, aad an agreement be entered into that each party par the,lnterest,op. the paoney for each special wopk- thc Harbor ’Board retaining tho right ta redeem the ddqk, and inffleient land for the prefer' use and working of the same at some SUtntO ,^ me w^on prepared tl> fO.”
