MYSTERIOUS DEATH AT DUNEDIN.

[pbbbs association tblbgeam.] DUNEDIN, August 25. At the inquest upon the body of the man Campbell, found in Ross’ right-of-way, most contradictory evidence was given. A boy said that he saw deceased in the right-of-way at half-past seven on Monday night. He was then asleep and two men were looking at him, who moved away as the boy approached, but returned again. The boy went to get a policeman, but before getting one he returned to make sure that the man was still there, end found he had gone. He asked a woman named “ Irish Kate,” that Dicks, a colored man, had taken him into his house. Two men, Ruff and Anderson, said they, with Dicks, took the man into the house, but finding his watch gone, they only kept him there tan minutes, and then put him back. He had only Is 6d on him. Dicks stated this also. A man named Winfield said he saw the man lying there after eleven, as he passed going home. On the contrary, Constable Mi'lar said that at ten o’clock he looked down the right-of-way, and saw nothing to attract attention, and at twelve o’clock Constables Millar and Sullivan said both went down, and saw nothing. The money deceased was known to have was accounted for all but £1 14s, an(T the Coroner said that there was little doubt that the men who were witnesses had got his money amongst them. Nothing is known as to the disappearance of the deceased’s watch. The medical evidence showed that Campbell died from exposure, and the jury returned a verdict to that effect.
