Consols have to-day again declined i, and are quoted at 1001. New Zealand securities remain firm at the following quotations :—Five per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 105 ; Five per Cent., 1889, Loan, 1044; Four and a Half per Cent., 1879-1904-Loan, 1011, ex div. The breadstuffs market continues very active, and prices for New Zealand and South Australian wheat and flour have again advanced by two shillings. To-day’s quotations aro as follows :—Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 55s per 496 lbs; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 40s 6d per 280 lbs; New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 54s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,530,000 quarters. Australian tallow has advanced Is per cwt., best beef being at 35s 6d, and best mutton at 37s 6d. Further large withdrawals of gold are being made from the Bank of England for North America. The Suez Mall. The mails via Brindisi, which left Melbourne on July 11th per Orient steamship Sorata, were delivered to-day. August 20. The Obstructionist AgainIn the House of Commons to-day a motion, introduced by Mr Parnell, condemning the Government for the re-arrest of Davitt, was, after debate, negatived by 61 to 19 votes. CONSTANTINOPLE, August 20. Cession of Thessaly. The territory in Thessaly which forms the extended Greek frontier has now been evacuated by the Turks, and the Greeks have entered upon possession. ST. PETERSBURG, August 20. DisgorgingThe treaty between the Russian and Chinese Governments for the retrocession of the Kuldga territory to China has been ratified here. CALCUTTA, August 20. Preparing for Battle. Telegrams to hand from Afghanistan report that the Ameer Abnl Rahman’s forces are now concentrating in the neighborhood of Kolat-i-ghilzai. Ayoub Khan is still at Candahar, where he continues the massing of his troops.
