CANTERBURY ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES.
WELLINGTON, August 17,
The following are the boundaries of tho proposed Canterbury electorates, as defined in the schedule to the Representation Bill just printed : Ashley is bounded towards the north-west, north, and east, by tho Cheviot electoral dis trict to the Ashley river; towards tho south by tho said river to tho road forming tho eastern boundary of section No. 10,412 ; towards the oast by that road continued to tho Oxford and Kaiapoi road at the south-east corner of section No. 4553 ; towards tho north-east by the said road and the borough of Kaiapoi to the Waimakiriri river, and again towards tho south by that river to tho Cheviot electoral district.
Kaiapoi is bounded towards the north by the Ashley electoral district; towards the east by the sea; towards the south by a right lino through trigonometrical station 0 27 on tho sea coast, and trigonometrical station O 19 to the left bank of the River Waimakiriri; towards tho west by the left bank of that river to the borough of Kaiapoi, thenco towards tho south-west by tho Ashley electoral district to section No. 4553, and again towards the west by the road forming the
eastern side ot that section, continued te the Ashley river. Aron is bounded towards the north by the Ashley and Kaiapoi electoral districts ; towards the east by the sea ; towards the south by the north bank of the I River Avon from its mouth to Stanmore road, ' thence towards the west by the said road to section 325 ; towards the south by the road forming the southern boundary ot that section to section 217, thence again towards the west by sections 287, 219, 3G7, 1070 and 1138 to the Purakanui creek, thence by that creek to section 1134, thence again towards the south by sections 1119, 1192, 1147, 1048, 304, 307, 135 to section 1101, thence by sections 135, 242, 143, 80, and a line to the north-west corner of section 155, thence by section 155 and a road to the south-east boundary ot section 145, thence by that boundary line till it is crossed by a creek running easterly into the river Hoathcote, the middle of that creek till it meets a line in continuation of the south-east boundary of section 180, the lino so continued to the southeast boundary of section 180, the middle of the road lying on the north-west boundary of section 156, as far as a point whore that road first meets a branch of the river Heathcoto ; a line drawn thence duo west to a point whore it crosses the great south road, and by the great south road, and towards the west by the Waimakiriri and Ross road and the Weeden and Ross roads. St. Albans is bounded towards fho west and north-west from Lincoln road by the road separating section 113 from 118 to Riccarton road, and by a straight line drawn from the north-west corner of 154 to the road separat ing section 18 from 80, and by that road to the road separating section 242 from 463 to the cross drain, thenco by thatdrain to section 151, and towards the north by that section to Papanui road ; thenco by that road to section 308, thence by section 308 to Norman’s road, thenco by that road to section 1048, thenco by sections 308, 302, 303 to a road forming the northern boundary of section 1149 j thence by that road to the Purarekanui creek ; towards the east by that creek to section 1135, thence towards the south by the road forming the northern boundary ot sections 1138, 345 a, 345, and 344; towards the east by sections 324, 252, and 311 to Springfield road ; thenco by that road to the North Town belt ; thence by the river Avon to Lincoln road, and by that road to starting point. Stanmore is bounded towards the west and north-west by St. Albans electoral district; towards the east by Avon electoral district to the road forming the western boundary of section 326, thence by that road to section 347 ; towards the south east by sections 347 and 84 to Ferry road ; towards the south-west by that road and tho borough of Sydenham to the borough of Christchurch ; towards the west and south by Christchurch, Sydenham is bounded by a lino commencing at tho intersection of roads known as Wilson’s road and tho Ferry rood, and running thenco along tho south side of the Ferry road in a westerly direction tothaE"t town belt of the city of Christchurch ; thenco along the eeit side of the said belt to the South town bolt of the said city, and thence along the south side of tho said belt to the Lower Lincoln road, thence along the southernmost side of the said Lincoln road to a roci known as Bright’s road, thence in a south and easterly direction along the northernmost side of Bright’s road to a road known as tho Windmill road, and thence along the east side of the said road to a road known 'as Colombo road, thence along the east side of Colombo road to a road known as Piper’s road, and thence along the north side of Piper’s road to the River BCeathcote, thenco along tho south bank ot the said river to Wilson’s bridge, and thenco northerly along tho west side of Wilson’s road to tho starting point. Christchurch North is bounded towards the north by the north town belt, towards tho east by tho east town belt, towards the south by a lino along tho middle of Worcester street, produced through Latimer square and Cathedral square ; again towards the East by tho middle of Antigua street, again towards the south, and towards the River Avon to the north town belt. Christchurch South is bounded towards the north by the Christchurch north electoral district ; towards the east by the east town belt ; towards the south by the south town belt, and towards the north west by Lincoln road and by Antigua street to the River Avon.
Hoathcote is bounded towards the north from the Halswell liver by a tributary of that liver running through sections 107 end 393 to the canal reserve, by the said reserve to the Biver Heathoote, and by that river to the Colombo south road ; towards the west by the Sydenham electoral district and the Stanmore electoral district; again towards the north by the Avon electoral district; towards the east by the sea; towards the south by Port Lyttelton, the (Lyttelton electoral district, and right lines from peak to peak, following the summit of the northwestern watershed of Port Lyttelton to the trig station on Cooper’s knob, thence to and by a stream rising on the west side of Cooper’s knob to its junction with the Halswell, and towards the west by the said river to the tributary before mentioned to the starting point. Lyttelton is bounded towards the north by right lines from peak to peak along the mmmit of the range of hills on the north side of Lyttelton Harbor; towards the east and west by right lines drawn due north and sou h to the easternmost and westernmost points of the town of Lyttelton as originally laid out by tho Canterbury Association, including the town reserve, and towards the south by Poiu Lyttelton.
Akaroa is bounded towards the North by the Heathcote electoral district; towards the north-east, east, and south by the sea to the mouth of Lake Ellesmere ; towards the northwest by Lake Ellesmere to the mouth of the river Hulswell, again towards the west by the said river to the starting point. Lincoln is bounded towards the north by the great southern railway and the great south road to the south-west corner of Avon electoral district at Wooden’s, thence by the said Avon electoral district towards the east by St. Albans electoral district and the Bydonham electoral district towards the south and east by the Heathcote electoral district and the Akaroa electoral district; towards tho south by that district and towards tho south-west by Lake Ellesmere to the mouth of the River Selwyn, and by the said river to the Groat Southern Railway to tho starting point. Selwyn is bounded towards the north-west by the western boundary line of Wostenra’s run produced to the Rakaia river; towards the north-east by Hororata river ; towards tho south-east by Lake Ellesmere ; towards tho south by the sea, and towards tho south-west by tho right bank of the Rakaia river. Coleridge—This district is bounded towards the north-west by the dividing range between Canterbury and Westland, from tho source of the River Rakaia to the Teremakau saddle ; towards the east and north-east by the Cheviot, Ashley and Avon electoral districts ; towards tho south-east by the Lincoln and Selwyn electoral districts; towards tho south-west and south by the right back of the Rakaia river to its source in the Southern Alps, the starting point. Ashburton —This district is bounded towards the north-west by the Southern Alps ; towards the north and north-east by tho Coleridge electoral district; towards tho southeast by run 117, again towards tho north-east by run 117 and run 118 produced to the railway ; towards tho |south by tho railway to the borough of Ashburton ; towards tho east by section 5800 ; towards tho south-east by sections 4904 and 4573 to tho Ashburton river, by tho said river to the railway again ; towards the south by the railway and towards the south-west by tho river Rangitata and Clyde river to its source in the Southern Alps.
Wakanui—This district is bounded towards tho north-east by the Rakaia river; towards tho south-east by the sea ; towards tho southwest by tho Rangituta river ; and towards the north-west by tho Ashburton electoral district.
Geraldine is bounded towards tho northwest by the Mount Peel Road District to the Orari river, thonco by tho road from Tripps cutting to tho traffic bridge over the Rangitata river; towards tho north-east by the Rangitata ; towards south-east by sea to tho Opihi river ; towards tho south-west and west by that river to the eastern boundary of runs 240 and 253.
Timaru is bounded towards tho west by the road commencing at the Wushdyko Greek between sections 1664 and 3131, running southerly to tho south-east corner of section 2001, thcnco westerly to the north-west corner of 3976, thence south-easterly to the southern boundary of tho municipality of Timaru, thenco by tho southern boundary again by the sea, towards the south-west by the Pareora river to its source at Mount Nimrod, thence by right lines along tho summit
of Hunter Hill to the northern boundary of run 163 ; thence by a right line duo west to tho Hakatcramea river, thence by a light line to tho Hakateramea Pasr, thence by a right line to tho Waitangi river at the northern corner of run 261 ; again towards tho south-west and towards tho west by the river Ohau, the lake Ohau and tho river Hopkins to the South Alps, and towards tho north-west by that range to Ashburton electoral district. Waitnato is bounded towards the northwest and east by tho Gladstone electoral district, towards tho east by the sea and towards the south-west by the Waitangi river. Cheviot is bounded towards the north by the Waiau electoral district ; towards the east by tho sea to the mouth of the river Ashley ; towards tho south by the said river Ashley to the eastern side of tho road forming the eastern boundary of section 2163, thence by that road to where it crosses tho western boundary of run No. 11, thence by the latter boundary to the west bank of the Wakerikori, thence by that river and the eastern boundary to run No. 194 to the summit of Mount Grey, thenco by the ridge to Mount Karetu, thence by runs 165, 166, a».d 163 to tho south branch of the Waipara river, thence towards the south by that river to its source, thence by a right line to Block Hill, thence by a right line to tho source of tho river Ashley aforesaid, thence towards the east by that river to tho confluence of the river Townsend, thence by a right line passing over the summit of Oxford Hill to the ■iver Waimakariri, and towards tho west by th Waimakariri and tho Poulter river, and by a light line from the source of the latter to the saddle between the Hurunui and Toremakau rivers, and thence towards the northwest by a right line to the summit of Mount Princess, together with adjacent islands.
