MAIL NOTICES.

Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under : TUESDAY. AUGUST 16. For Northern Ports, per Wanaka, at 7.30 p.m. Guard’s van must not be used for this mail. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17. For Northern Ports and Westport, per Grafton, at 1.45 p.m.; late foe letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p m. train. THURSDAY, AUGUST 18. _ For Australian Colonies and United Kingdom via Brindisi (for specially addressed correspondence only), Continent of Europe, Point de Gallo, India, China, Japan, the East, Aden. Mauritius, Capo of Good Hope, Natal, &c., per express train to connect with s.s. Te Anan, as follows Ordinary letters, at 7 a.m. ; books and newspapers, at 6 a.m. ; registered letters, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17th ; money orders, at 4 p.m. en Wednesday, August 17th ; late feo letters may bo posted in the travelling Post Office van attached to the express tram on Thursday, August 18th. For Northern Potts of New Zealand, per Albion, at 145 p.m.; late fee letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Otago, per Taiaroa, at 1.45 p.m.; late letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train MONDAY, AUGUST 22. For West Coast Sounds, per Express, to connect with s.s. Stella at the Bluff, at 7 a.m. Notice.—The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close sn Saturday, September 10th, and will bo due in London on October 25th. SYDNEY J.
