Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under: — FRIDAY, AUGUST 12. For Northern Ports, per Penguin, at 1.45 p.m.; late fee letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2 40 p.m. train. For Otago, per Wanaka, at 3.20 p.m. ; late fee letters, 3.30 p.m. ; guard’s van, 4 p.m. trail. SATURDAY. AUGUST 13. For United Kingdom, Continents of Europe and America, West Indies, <fec. (via San Francisco), Sandwich Islands, Northern Ports of New Zealand,Fiji Islands, &c., perTaiaroa, as follows: Ordinary letters at 6.30 p.m.; lata fee letters, at 7 p.m. ; books and newspapers, at 6.30 p.m.; registered letters, at 5 p.m. ; money orders at 3 p.m. ; guard’s van, 830 p.m. train.
