Aratapu, brigantine, 122 tons, Bower, for Auckland. Cuff and Graham, agents. The Jaapsr. one of the C. W. Turner line of vessels belonging to this port, arrived from Manritins off the Heads this forenoon. The Wanaka arrived this morning from Piston, Nelson, and Wellington. The Penguin did not leave Dunedin vestarday. as was expected, and consequently will not go to Wellington until to-morrow. Mr Baxter, who was chief officer of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Waipa, it is reported has been appointed to the command of that vessel. Though a young man, he is an old servant in the employ, and his promotion will he a source of pleasure to a wide circle of his friends who have airived in the colony in the company’s ship and settled hero. It will also be a source of pleasure to the friends of Mr £ndd, who is now second officer of the Opawa, to learn that he is about to be promoted to the position o( chief officer of the Waipa, and not leas a pleasure to the parents of sons in the company’s service, apprenticed from New Zealand porta, to learn that Mr M, M. Boston, one of the company’s Lyttelton apprentices, has been promoted to the second officership of the Opawa.
